Type of Project: Commercial Upgrades
Worked alongside: Bellingham Marine, Kaipara District Council
Completed: 2020
At Plumbing & Heating Centre, we were delighted to play a role in the development of Dargaville’s new floating pontoon, a key feature of the wider Kaipara Harbour Wharves Project. This initiative is revitalising maritime infrastructure across the region, reconnecting communities with the water and creating new opportunities for tourism, transport, and recreation.
The pontoon, located at the Dargaville wharf, was officially blessed in a community ceremony that marked the beginning of a new era for Kaipara’s waterfront. Designed to rise and fall with the tide, the floating structure provides safe and accessible mooring for boats, ferries, and water-based activities - bringing life back to the harbour.

The Dargaville Wharf was unusable for many years due to damage. The new floating pontoon and gangway now connect the wharf to the Northern Wairoa River.
Our team was engaged to connect the water supply and install a hose tap on the pontoon installation, ensuring the infrastructure was built to last and compliant with marine standards. We worked alongside contractors and council teams to deliver a seamless result that supports the long-term vision for Kaipara’s coastal connectivity.
This isn’t just a pontoon - it’s part of a legacy. The Kaipara Harbour Wharves Project aims to restore historic wharf sites and create new access points across the region, linking towns like Pahi, Pouto, and Dargaville by water once again. The floating pontoon is a symbol of progress, community, and connection.
